In preparation for the Wedding, we had asked my cousin's lovely partner Anna Elizabeth to make us a cake. It was a long shot since they live all the way in BC but I had to ask. As expected she couldn't make it down for the wedding but recommend a good friend, Nadia from Nadia & Co. as someone who could make our sweet dreams come true.
Words cannot describe how amazing Nadia is. Not only are the cakes delicious but she is the sweetest lady ever! We were mainly looking for something that tasted fantastic - we didn't want all that extra fondant. To us, a simple buttercream frosting and a sumptuous filling are more important than the overall look of the cake. Plus, selfishly, I don't like the taste of fondant.
I will say - Nadia makes possibly some of the most beautifully designed cakes in Toronto and works with fondant the way that artists work with paint. They are breathtaking - so if you are looking for someone to create a work of art of your cake - look to her.
For our buttercream cakes, Nadia made sure the buttercream texture was different on each one, giving them a distinct look. We added a few flourishes with some cake flowers from Botany studios and low and behold; a relatively inexpensive cake seemed like a million bucks.
And as for the taste - OUT OF THIS WORLD! We chose Lemon and Passionfruit, Lavender Cream and Vanilla, Coconut Cream, Banana Bread and Salted Caramel, and Chocolate and Hazelnut. Each one was better than the next. By chose multiple cakes of different sizes and flavours everyone got to try one of their favourites (or a little bit of each). They were one of the biggest hits of the evening and a unique choice we would totally recommend other brides giving a try!
