Ever since I was a little girl, I've dreamed of living in a loft. I had a bunk bed when I was about 13 that I used to turn into my little loft-like space wishing that one day I could have a real apartment just like that. A bed that looks out over the living room, a huge wall which houses a giant bookcase (maybe even with a ladder...), a fireplace, a retro/vintage chandelier and lovely exposed cement ceiling. Well, the other day, after a week of looking at dozens of apartments, I walked into Suite 812 at the Kings, and I knew I was home....
This is the Kings Lofts. My new loft is the one on the top floor, second from the left. Suite 812....my new home starting December 16th, 2011. The loft is about a 5 minute walk to work and is close to Scarlett and the yoga studio as well as my other friends apartments. It just feels like the right place to be right now and I'm sooo happy that this is all happening! It was a little rainy the second time I came in to take pictures but the place still looks gorgeous....imagine what it looks like on a sunny day.....here is a short tour of the place as it is with the previous owner's stuff and what I imagine for the place once I move in....
The Living Room
From the minute you walk in, the entire place is filled with light. I said, "wow....wow" for about the first 5 minutes I was walking around the place. The blinds are both light filtering and blackout blinds. One of the other amazing things is the fireplace, the giant chimney goes all the way to the ceiling and is a gorgeous centerpiece for the apartment.
The little built in bookshelf with the TV is going to be the perfect size for my television but I might get a flat screen to go above the fireplace eventually...we shall see... Along the left wall I'm going to build my own dream bookshelf complete with a ladder....talking to the contractor this week. So excited! Something I've always, always dreamt of...and now I'll have a place to put all my hundreds and hundreds of books! The den is just behind that banister above the stairs and the light that you get in the den is gorgeous.
The kitchen is so lovingly tended. Even though the appliance are old, I kinda love them. The white appliance are very well cleaned and have a slightly vintage feel to them compared to the modern, stainless steel ones at my place (which I love but these are cool too). I might replace them when I move in depending on how they work but right now they are perfect for the place. I really like the little cabinet inserts that she made too. The whole kitchen feels a little more of a 'kitchen' than my other place and the additional cabinets are great! I'm going to bring my island with me and put it where they have the glass table, looking out the window at the beautiful balcony.
The Entry Way // Closet // Main Floor Bathroom
I love the entryway. A closet to hide my coats in and a bathroom for the guests are two things I'm soooo excited to have! Plus this mirror that the previous owner has up here is genius and I can't wait to get one of my own!
I love the bedroom. Love love love. The bed faces the giant living room wall and if you look over the half wall you can look down over the living room. The bedroom has three closet doors and sooooo much space!!! I'm not a fan of the grey walls in the place but that's pretty easy to fix. The huge window is great for light but again has great blackout and light filtering blinds. The window looks out over the building beside me as well as over at the water and a view of the princess gates, which light up at night!!
I love the way the bedroom looks down over the living room!
The den is much thinner than my den I have now but it's a long room with natural light which I really love. I might even put a mirrored wall along the side to reflect the view which you can see over the little balcony railings of the staircase. Along the one side of the den wall you can see the door where the laundry room is. Pretty standard laundry, hope it all works ok ;) The den also needs new lights so hopefully I'll be able to get them installed the day before I move it.
The Second Floor Bathroom
The bathroom is both my favourite room and the one that needs the most work. I kinda love that this place needs some fixing up! It's going to be a great project that I'll be undertaking over the years I live there. I know immediately I'm installing new lighting and a nice shower head. The maybe over the years a new counter top and mirror... But the most amazing thing about this place is the jacuzzi tub!!!! I cannot even believe it!!!! When I read about it on the listing and then I saw it in this already amazing place it seemed too good to be true. The first night, after the big move, I am going to have a long bath in my first very own jacuzzi tub!!
I can't wait to share pictures of the balcony at night! But the balcony is perfect. It's much deeper than the one I have now and you are allowed a BBQ and there is even a gas hookup for it! Condos stopped doing BBQ hookups on new places so one of the joys in buying an older place is getting the old laws with it. Can't wait for summer and more giant BBQs.
From the balcony you can see the CN tower, the lake on a clear day and even the glowing angel of the princess gates... It's incredible. Opposite me there is a big red brick building with so much character and a lovely pub at the bottom which I hope becomes my local haunt where they know my order and they can bring me what I want without even asking. All my little fantasies involved ways in which to reduce interaction with random people.... The view to the west is also pretty interesting, you can see the park and the cute little buildings dotting King Street West.
Well, that is all folks. I can't wait to share more pictures with some of the renovations that are going to take place. Come to my move in dates I hope to have at least the painting was done and maybe some of the new light fixtures installed. I'm having a huge Christmas party on the 20th to celebrate moving in and hopefully I'll be able to have a 20ft tree put in. It's always been a dream of mine to have one of those giant trees in my home and now that I have the ceiling for it, there's nothing to stop me. Can't wait to share this place with all my friends and my out of town friends who are pumped to be visiting/staying here this Christmas!!
As more happens, I'll fill you guys in! xoxo
