After spending an hour or so with our photographer, our bridal party made the hike up the hill into the forest to join us for our Bridal Party photographs.
It was the first time everyone was together, all dressed in their finery. It was the first time we could see the whole vision come together! It was so wonderful to see the smiles on their faces as they saw Dan and me together for the first time.
For the groomsmen, we decided that we didn't want them wearing jackets. Knowing it was going to be an outdoor wedding we thought it would be hot and we also like showing off the suspenders Dan had picked out for his boys. They looked so dapper. That blend of modern and vintage fashion.
For the bridesmaids, I let each of them individually choose their dress. The only caveat I had was that it should be knee length or thereabouts, and any shade of off white, with some lacey texture. This way each of them could find something that suited their body, their personality and their style. I LOVED all of their outfits. In ancient Roman times, it was a tradition for bridesmaids to wear white along with the bride. This ritual was thought to ward off evil spirits, as they believed that weddings would attract demons. Since the spirits could not tell the women apart, they would depart, and no harm would befall the bride and groom. I thought this little piece of history was so interesting but in truth, I just adore the look of the colours all together.
As I mentioned, all the girl's dresses matched their personal style. Katie's dress was conservative and so classy. Sherri-Lyn's dress has a plunging neckline, gorgeous appliqued lace and an absolutely form fitting shape.
Sarah's dress had been a favourite of mine on Modcloth.com for ages, and I was so happy to hear she had purchased it! It was ivory, lined with a floral lace pattern and then touched up with hints of gold thread! So so cute! Meg's dress had the most interesting lace. It had all different patterns strung together, some more modern patterns and some more traditional. It felt very artsy and very Meg.
Aunonna's dress was the most risque and the most Aunonna! I loved it! It was so sexy and yet sophisticated. Just like my girl. Sarah's dress was a skirt/top combination Sarah concocted! It was so delicate and yet not overly flowery. Felt like the perfect mix of elegant and casual.
To tie the bridesmaids looks together, I had each of their hair styled in a similar fashion, pinned with a bouquet of fresh baby's breath. But the most important piece of their outfits for me would have to be their necklaces. Each of one other wore a raw rose quartz necklace I had gifted them. Rose quartz is often called the "love stone". It represents an unconditional love that opens the heart chakra. All these women have meant so much to me over the years, each one opening my heart to different things. Laughter, love, friendship and sisterhood.
While the girls were getting their photos taken, the boys had already finished. They climbed the hill and had a little fun with the camera while we were off taking cutesy pictures.
After taking our individual group photos, we all got back together on the hill to take some group shots. The blue sky behind us could not have been more stunning as a backdrop.
As far as taking photos go, it can be a bit tiring and boring after a while, but I think we did a good job of making each other laugh and joking around while we did it.
After a little while, the hot sun was getting to us all, and we thought it was time to head in. I was a little anxious as we walked down the hill. This was the fun, easy part. Hanging out with a small group of my closest friends. Now it was time to get in front of a HUGE group of people and hope everything went to plan.
I think sensing my apprehension, Dan and his boy decided to do one last photo shoot. They took the bridesmaids heart shaped glasses and went to town! It made me smile.
The girls and I also took our turn taking some silly photos before heading back down. Something to make us laugh and to break the tension. It helped. These people are superstars.
