In the summer time, nothing is better than a Luau. My lovely aunt and uncle hosted an engagement party for their daughter and her new fiance. The entire party was themed as a luau. A luau is a traditional Hawaiian party or feast that is usually accompanied by entertainment.
Upon entry, we were treated to a pile of colourful lais which each of us chose, to match our tropically inspired outfit.
Luaus traditionally feature food such as poi, Kalua pig, poke, lomi salmon, and beer, and entertainment such as traditional Hawaiian music and hula.
Lucas was a hit with all the flamingos. My poor aunt had searched the entirety of cottage country to come up with enough flamingos to cover the lawn. But they sure made an impact.
The table was decorated with brightly coloured flowers which brought, even more, colour to the event.
My cousin Ashley had tirelessly designed even the food to be a spectacle. A tree was made from nailed together pineapples to resemble a palm tree and then tiny shrimps were skewed into the pineapple for a striking food display.
Ashley and her partner made the bar from scratch and served up fresh coconut mai tais and pineapple pina coladas.
